GluKaMon has a wide variety of data fields. Choose which are best for you, in any combination

GluKaMon lets you add many different types of data fields to your Karoo, providing many ways to visualize your glucose data. Choose the data fields that help you the most. You can add as many as you like, mix and match, and have multiple copies of the same data field. For example, if you have multiple pages on your profile for different purposes and want to see your glucose levels at all times, you could add the Value data field to every page. Or a small version of the graph data field on one page, and a larger copy of the same graph data field on another page

All GluKaMon Data Fields

All data fields have a heading row, which shows:

  • A small GluKaMon “blood drop” icon on the left
  • An indicator next to the icon with the time-period being displayed (1-minute, 5-minute, or 15-minute values). If 1-minute readings are available then the 5-minute and 15-minute values are averages, calculated over 5 and 15 minutes allowing for some variance for your CGM to report data. If 5-minute readings are available then 5 minute values are straight from your CGM and 15 minute values are averages.
  • If you configure 1m data fields but polling is set to 5m or your CGM only provides data at 5m intervals, the 1m tiles will show the most recent 5m value. The 1m Dots data field shows 5 readings over the last 5 minutes, so with 5m data only one of the 5 dots on a 1 minute dots tile will be filled (there are no 1m values to fill the other dots, which will show “—”). A 1 minute “change” field will show “—” since there is no way to calculate a 1 minute change with 5 minute interval data. Finally, the “1m” indicator in the top left of the data field will be in italics (i.e. “1m“) to indicate that it is not actually receiving data every minute
  • If there are not enough readings available to calculate meaningful numbers, fields will display a “?” or a dash (“—”) depending on why the readings are missing (“?” if the readings were missed because of loss of network connectivity, “—” if they are missing because the CGM servers do not have readings available, e.g. a sensor that has expired)
  • The time since the last valid reading was taken from your CGM on the top right of the data field, with a timer icon, rounded to the nearest minute. After 3 hours it simply displays >180m since 3 hours is the longest period of time that GluKaMon displays data (i.e. on the graph data fields), i.e. indicating that all data has aged out

For data fields that display numeric readings, the units (mg/dL or mmol/L) are displayed in the center of the heading

Your readings will be displayed under the heading row

Trend arrows are the same as displayed by the CGM app

When data is 20 minutes old or more the data field will display either a dash (“—”) if GluKaMon is able to communicate but there is no current data (e.g. a sensor warming up or expired, or a phone out of reach of the sensor and unable to read/upload a reading), or a “?”  if GluKaMon is unable to receive data from the CGM servers (e.g. you have ridden out of cellular coverage.) You will get an alert indicating that the data is over 20 minutes old

For graph fields, when data is old the valid data will stay on screen and scroll left, leaving blank space on the right of the graph where recent readings would normally be graphed. After 3 hours there will be no data to display and so the graph will be empty

Where appropriate, your Karoo settings for “Dark” or “Light” are respected; The exception is for “Color” data fields where the background is colored to represent your glucose zone and the text is always black to be visible on the color background

Sometimes the CGM servers will retroactively correct glucose readings (if you recalibrate your sensor for example.) In those instances GluKaMon data fields on your Karoo that display glucose history will use these corrected historical readings (e.g. the Graph data field) so you may see the graph change retroactively. Corrections are NOT recorded to FIT, since values already written to the FIT file cannot be retracted


How GluKaMon Handles Color

  • The header of every field (the icon, units, and “minutes since” timer) is normally in black or white: black on color and white backgrounds (i.e. if your Karoo is in light mode), white on black backgrounds (dark mode.) When the most recent reading is >10 minutes old the “minutes since” timer in the upper right corner will turn yellow, and at >15 minutes old it will turn red, so you know the reading is getting stale.
  • For non-color fields, in 3-color mode (determined in the settings) the text is in red, yellow, or green, to indicate which zone (also determined in the settings) your most recent glucose reading is in
  • In full-color mode the text will be in an appropriate shade of red, yellow or green, to indicate which zone your most recent glucose reading is in, AND where in the zone the reading sits
  • For “color” data fields the background is colored in either red, yellow, or green (for 3-color mode) or a shade of red, yellow, or green (for full-color mode). For color data fields, the “minutes since” timer does not change color when data gets old, since yellow on yellow or red on red (for example) would not be visible. It stays black
  • Trend arrows are always in foreground color (black or white) since Trend doesn’t indicate a zone (e.g. ↑ could appear in any zone)
  • The range of colors for full-color mode is below

GluKaMon Data Fields

Value

The Value data field has a standard heading (indicating 1m, 5m, or 15m samples, units, and the minutes since the last reading.) The data field shows your most recent glucose reading. The Value data field comes in 1m, 5m, and 15m variants, and all of those come either with colored text on standard black or white background, or color versions with black text on a colored background

Trend

The Trend data field has a heading indicating minutes since the last sample was taken, and two arrows. Since your CGM calculates the trend using its own algorithm, there are no 1/5/15 minute based variations, so the 1m or 5m in the upper left of the heading indicates the current polling rate (i.e. polling every minute or every 5 minutes.) There is a color variant with black text on a colored background. The color variant makes it easy to see both what zone your glucose is in (but not the value) and the trend

Value and Trend

The Value and Trend data field has a standard heading and brings together both the most recent glucose value and trend arrow in a single Data Field. It comes in 1m, 5m, and 15m variants, and all of those come either with colored text on standard black or white background, or color versions with black text on a colored background

Change

The Change data field has a standard heading indicating 1m, 5m or 15m samples and minutes since the last sample was taken, but instead of “units” it displays a Greek Delta symbol. The data field shows the change in your most recent glucose value from the reading closest to 1, 5, or 15 minutes earlier. Since glucose readings don’t arrive at exact intervals GluKaMon tolerates some variance, and will display a “?” if there isn’t a reading close enough, to avoid providing misleading information. The text color reflects your glucose level, it is not an indicator of the change. There is a color background variant as well

Circle Zone

The Circle Zone data field is similar to the Value data field and has a standard heading. The reading is displayed in a circle (in the same zone color as the numeric reading) placed over a series of colored dots representing the 5 glucose zones (very low, low, target, high, very high) from left to right. It is not scaled numerically from left to right, e.g. if your target zone is 100-150 then any readings in that range will be displayed in that target zone, so readings of 100, 120, and 150 would all be shown in the same position. This makes it easier to distinguish what zone your glucose is in, and the exact numeric value is displayed in the circle. It comes in 1m, 5m, and 15m variants

Box Zone

The Box Zone data field is identical to the Value Zone Circular data field but uses a rectangular box for the glucose value instead of a circle, and horizontal bars instead of dots to represent the zones. It comes in 1m, 5m, and 15m variants

Dots

The Dots data field has a standard heading and displays your 5 most recent glucose readings from left to right (oldest to newest) in the foreground color on 5 colored dots representing the zone of each reading. On the right of the data field is the most recent trend arrow in the foreground color. This allows you to see the last half hour of your glucose readings, the zones, and the trend in a glance, in one compact data field

Rainbow

The Rainbow data field has a standard heading and displays your most recent glucose value in a circle, in black. The circle is centered on the point in the data field from left to right corresponding to the glucose value. The scale runs from the leftmost edge of the data field to the rightmost edge, and ranges from 0 – 440 if mg/dL is selected, 0-22.4 if mmol/L is selected and the “rainbow scale” is set to “Wide” (it starts at 0 rather than 40, to allow room for the circle holding the glucose value, which is centered on the glucose value; likewise it ends at 440 to accommodate readings as high as 400, as the circle holding the glucose value will be centered on the 400.) If “Standard” is selected for the graph scale, the rainbow will scale from 0-340. And if “Narrow” is selected, it will scale from 0-240

The scale is colored based on the zones. Since different zones may cover different size ranges (e.g. low may cover only 70-100 while High may cover 200-300) each zone could be a different size from left to right, and so the colored zones bars in the rainbow can be of different widths. Like the “Color” data fields the count of minutes since the last sample was taken does not change colors when the data becomes stale

Graph: Basic

The Basic Graph data field has a standard heading, with one distinction: The indicator in the upper left corner always shows the actual polling interval used to poll for CGM readings, i.e. it will indicate “1m” if GluKaMon is polling at 1 minute intervals, “5m” if it is polling at 5 minute intervals. This is because there are no separate graphs for 1, 5, and 15 minute intervals since the frequency of the glucose readings is visible in the actual graph itself, i.e. there is no “1m graph” or “5m graph” there is just a graph that displays readings exactly at the time they are timestamped

The basic graph data field displays the most recent glucose readings covering the graph timeframe selected in Settings (30, 60, or 180 minutes) with the oldest on the left and the newest on the right. The glucose readings are represented by dots, colored based on the glucose zone. The most recent reading is a hollow dot. If readings are too high or too low to fit on the graph, they will be plotted at the very top or bottom of the graph as upward or downward pointing triangles indicating that those readings are above or below the edges of the graph. There are horizontal lines on the graph representing the boundaries of each zone, and vertical bars marking the hours. The height scale of the graph is determined in the Settings. If “Dynamic” is selected, the graph will automatically scale to cover the range of your most glucose readings. Dot size is determined by how dense the readings are, so dots will be smaller for CGMs that provide 1 minute readings, to accommodate the larger number of readings, and will be larger for CGMs that provide 5 minute readings. They will also be larger for shorter timeframes (e.g. a 30 minute graph has fewer readings and more room for dots than a 180 minute graph). Dots can even vary in size in the same graph, e.g. if a CGM provides 1 minute readings but misses one, the dots adjacent to the missed reading will expand slightly

Graph: Color Bar

The Color Bar Graph data field is like the basic graph, and adds a scale bar to the left, colored by zone, to the right of the most recent value dot will be a circle displaying the most recent glucose reading.

Graph: Full Color

The Full Color Graph data field is identical to the Color Bar Graph data field, except that the entire background of the graph is colored to represent the glucose zones (based on the zones specified in the settings) instead of the dots themselves being colored

Graph: Rainbow

The Rainbow Graph data field is identical to the Full Color Graph data field, except that the background of the graph is colored in a full range of colors. The bands are not all equally sized since each zone may be a different size. The zone boundaries are marked by black horizontal lines
